I. Einleitung
Eines der bekanntesten Werke von Shakespeare ist das Werk Hamlet, welches zwischen 1598-1602 verfasst wurde. Ein Prinz versucht darin den Mord an seinem Vater zu rächen und legt dafür ein merkwürdiges Verhalten an den Tag. Mit dieser checklist versucht er an die Wahrheit zu gelangen, aber auch seine innere Zerrüttheit wieder zu ordnen.
Diese Hausarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Hauptfigur Hamlet und dem Aufsetzen einer Maske, um sein Ziel zu erreichen. Dabei soll auch die Melancholie in dem Stück näher betrachtet werden, jedoch ohne die typischen Merkmale einer solchen zu beschreiben, sondern um die Bedeutung für das Stück und für Hamlets Werdegang zu unterstreichen. Eine kurze Beschreibung am Anfang soll helfen, sich das Geschehen besser zu verdeutlichen. Der Schluss soll zeigen, ob Hamlets Verhalten mit dem maskenhaften Schauspiel und der Melancholie, oder doch eher mit einer Verrücktheit zu erklären sind.
II. Hauptteil
Hamlet, Prinz von Dänemark, verkörpert in Shakespears Stück eine Figur, welche kaum zu durchschauen ist. Er ist getroffen vom Tod seines Vaters, geschockt von der schnellen Heirat seiner Mutter mit seinem Onkel und fassungslos, als er von dem Mord an seinem Vater hört. Daraufhin findet eine Wende in ihm statt. Er setzt eine Maske auf, die es immer offen lässt, ob Hamlet tatsächlich wahnsinnig ist oder nur vorgibt es zu sein. Die Melancholie tritt ein und eine Zerrissenheit findet in Hamlets Innerem statt.
Die folgenden zwei Aspekte, die der Maske und die der Melancholie, sollen versuchen Hamlets Verhalten näher zu bringen und zu erörtern. Eine genaue Abgrenzung zwischen den Beiden soll dabei jedoch nicht stattfinden. Sie ergänzen sich vielmehr. Zu Beginn soll das maskenhafte Auftreten Hamlets näher betrachtet werden.
